What is an eSIM?

An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile plan from Jethro Mobile without the need of a physical SIM card. It’s a small chip that’s built into your smartphone and can be programmed with new information when you want to change carriers or plans.

What’s the Difference Between eSim and Physical SIM Card?

While physical SIM cards are still the most common type, eSIMs offer several advantages. Physical SIM cards can get damaged or lost, while an eSIM is safe from physical damage. eSIMs also offer more flexibility in managing your service plans. A fully enabled eSIM device lets you add a second plan, whether you are roaming abroad or if you need a separate work line.

How does it work?

eSIM works similarly to a traditional SIM card. The key difference is that instead of a physical card, the eSIM is a blank chip already embedded into your device. Usually can check if your device is eSIM compatible by checking your settings and going to the 'about phone' section. You essentially download and install an eSIM like you would with a software update. This allows carriers to provide these to you wirelessly.

Why should you use it & how can it benefit you

  • Convenience: switching carriers or plans is easier without the need to physically swap out SIM cards.

  • Quick Setup: With eSIM, you can enjoy a faster setup process, completing the setup on the same day without waiting for physical delivery.

  • Travel-Friendly: easily switch to local data plans when traveling abroad without needing a new SIM.

  • Security: eSIM offers enhanced security compared to traditional SIM cards. Since eSIMs are embedded within your device, they cannot be physically swapped or stolen, making it more difficult to gain unauthorized access to your device.

  • Space Saving: eSIMs take up less space, allowing for slimmer device designs.

  • Dual-SIM: many eSIM-capable devices also support a physical SIM, allowing you to have two numbers or service plans on the same device.

Global Coverage

With eSIM, you can easily switch to local plans when traveling abroad without needing a new SIM card. This makes it easy to stay connected while traveling internationally. By using eSIM, you can avoid high roaming bills and enjoy seamless connectivity during your travels. Coming to the US? Check out Jethro Mobile’s US Travel Plans.

Keep your primary number

Many eSIM-capable devices also support a physical SIM, allowing you to have two numbers or service plans on the same device. This means you can keep your primary number on the physical SIM and use the eSIM for a secondary number or data plan. This is particularly useful for those who travel frequently or need a separate number for personal and work use.
