How do Jethro Mobile Travel Plans Work?

With the US-Canada border open to travel, we know you are ready for an adventure. Jethro Mobile has USA Travel Plans that are easy to set up and affordable. Recently, we have been getting some questions about how our travel plans work. This blog will try to answer any questions you may have, so you can be sure this is the plan for you.

Check if your Phone is Compatible

First, you should make sure your phone is compatible with our service. It must be at least 4G LTE compatible and unlocked. To find out if your phone is compatible, you can go here: To find out if your phone is unlocked, you will need to contact either the manufacturer of the phone or the place your purchased it from. If your phone is not compatible with our service, you will either need to use another phone or choose another service provider.

Order your SIM Card

If your phone is compatible, great! You will want to order your SIM card or plan. If you order a plan, the SIM card comes included. If you order a SIM card only, you will purchase a plan when you are ready to activate. You can order any of our plans even if they are not “travel plans.” They will still provide you service in the United States. If you are looking for long term travel plans, try these. If you are looking for short term travel plans, these ones may fit your needs.

After you Receive your SIM Card

Once you receive your SIM card in the mail (yes, we ship to Canada!), you will be ready to activate your service. If you choose one of these travel plans, you will be able to schedule the activation for whenever you want, and the plan will not start until the scheduled day. If you choose a different plan, you cannot schedule the activation. With these plans, we often suggest activating it the day before you leave for your trip. Your plan will begin the day you activate it. Once you activate the service, you will receive your new phone number via email in 5 minutes. Your service will not work until you cross the border and are in the US. Even though the service will not work until you are in the United States, you can activate at any time which would allow you to give your phone number to whoever needs it. You can activate your service whether the SIM card is in the phone or not.

What Information do I Need to Activate Service?

All you need to activate service is

  • The name you want on your account

  • A good email address (so we can email you your phone number

  • A service address in the United States

You need to use an address in the States so that you can get a local area code for your phone number. We suggest entering the address of the place you are traveling to. It can even be the hotel you are staying at.

What do I Need to do Once I Cross the Border?

Once you cross the border, all you need to do is put the Jethro Mobile SIM card in your phone and then turn the phone off and back on again. That’s all and you will have simple and reliable service.

My Trip was Extended. How do I Extend my Cell Phone Service?

If you trip was extended or decided you want to stay longer, it is easy to renew your service.

  1. Go to your online Jethro Mobile account that was created when you activated your service. Choose renew/change plan and pick which plan fits your needs.

  2. Call us at 1.888.509.6199 so we can help you renew your service. We are available by phone 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific Standard Time 7 days a week.

You can renew for the same plan or choose any other plan. You can even use the same SIM card you have now.

I Ran Out of Data. How Do I Get More?

Oops… you used more data than you expected to? That’s ok, Jethro Mobile offers data add-ons.

  1. Log into your online Jethro Mobile account and choose “Buy more.” We have 1 GB and 3 GB data add-ons.

  2. Call us at 1.888.509.6199 so we can help you add more data. We are available by phone 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific Standard Time 7 days a week.

Visiting the States Again Soon?

If you visit within 45 days of your plan expiring, you don’t need a new SIM card. Jethro Mobile keeps your phone number for 45 days after your plan expires. Simply call us or go online to add service to your SIM card. This way you don’t have to wait for a new SIM card or get a new number.

If you want to keep your number past 45 days, we recommend renewing with the $5 plan so your line is not deactivated.
